CLIMATE CHANGE - IN OUR HANDS. ADAPTATION AND RESILIENCE

Climate Change is a global challenge, but its effects are not experienced equally. Developing and conflict effected countries like Somalia are the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change. There is an urgent need to identify and understand the institutional priorities for addressing the threat of climate change as well as the systemic challenges for accessing climate finance. Particularly focusing on:

  • How to better leverage finance for climate related activities

  • How to better understand cascading and compounding risks (of climate and conflict)

  • How to better coordinate and collaborate activities for optimal impact

  • How to better influence and support coordinated Government decision making processes in a risk-informed manner

  • How to support areas of reform to support institutional arrangements for better climate risk management and adaptation

In national and regional contexts, we work with policy makers, governments, companies and civil society organisations to develop better understanding, policies and programmes, focusing on:

  • Stocktake of climate finance mobilisation, adaptation and resilience priorities, and governance architecture including the political economy of climate and environment
  • Assessment of the institutional arrangements for climate related activities
  • Developing Strategic Framework to better manage and leverage climate finance for Somalia

BUSINESS, PEACE-BUILDING AND HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE

International and national companies can and are increasingly playing vital role in building sustainable peace, protecting human rights and providing humanitarian assistance. In national and regional contexts we work with policy makers, governments, companies and civil society organisations to develop better understanding, policies and programmes, focusing on;

  • Business practices which facilitate or impede the peace-building and development processes
  • Role of companies in forming and strengthening national institutions
  • Respecting and protecting human rights at workplaces and in communities

NGOS, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

NGOs perform and govern a range of social and economic development activities in societies with weak and limited statehood. In national and regional contexts we implement community development programmes and work in partnership with other national and international NGOs to achieve Sustainable Development Goals: Our focus is on;

  • Linking provision of basic needs such as clean water, health services, education, and sports activities with peace education processes
  • Organising and sustaining dialogue among diverse stakeholders at community level

GENDER, DEMOCRACY AND PEACE-BUILDING

Gender is not synonymous with women; rather it is a concept that captures the dynamic relationship between and among men and women in diverse social settings. We go beyond the traditional ways of seeing issues of gender by adopting an inclusive gender perspective which gives equal attention to both men and women and their relationships and see them as active agents and participants in peacebuilding, reconciliation and healing. We focus on;

  • Policy commitments under UNSCR 1325 and related resolutions on women, peace and security
  • Participation and leadership of women in political processes and activities
  • Showcasing the community leadership models
